Though if you’d asked her, Wendy would have said she was more of a dog person, what she really was was a fan of anything friendly that walked on four legs. So, the moment she’d seen the cat in the arms of the older Ravenclaw, she’d made a beeline for him and requested to pet him. “Oh no!” she said sympathetically upon hearing the other girl’s words. “How long has he been feeling poorly?”

Adventures in Tutoring || Sheldon and Wendy

Sheldon was never one who perfectly stuck in the mold of being a ravenclaw, but he still tried to keep some of his grades up.  Yet once he joined the quidditch team it seemed like he was stuck juggling two things that he felt the need to exceed in.  So once he found out that he had been recommended to get a tutor the ravenclaw resented it and allowed his grades to drop even more.  And once the head of the house found out, the recommendation turned into a requirement.

So as Sheldon entered the library he debated on just leaving.  He could easily say that he forgot, or had too busy of a schedule to show up.  For a few moments Sheldon remained standing in the middle of the library looking around for anyone who looked tutor worthy, but for the most part the library remained empty except for a few older students studying for potions.  With a sigh Sheldon sat near the group to blend in and began to act like he was taking some kind of notes.

Every time a different person entered the library Sheldon would look up to make sure it wasn’t possibly his tutor.  But once an upperclassman of the same house entered the library Sheldon automatically knew that she was his tutor.  As she walked towards him Sheldon continued to act like he was writing, only looking up when she began to talk to him.

“Uhh, yeah.. why?”  Sheldon asked hoping that if he played dumb maybe the seventh year ravenclaw would think that she had the wrong student.

Wendy looked the boy over. Prone to self-doubt, she briefly considered she might’ve had the wrong name. But she quickly brushed the thought from her mind. What were the odds that she had gotten the wrong name and it just so happened to be his name? More specifically, what were the odds of it being the name of the only person sitting by himself where she was supposed to tutor someone? Wendy was willing to bet the answer was “not very high.”

Raising an eyebrow, she slid into the seat next to him. “Well,” she began matter-of-factly, knowing how to deal with charges trying to get out of unpleasant things. “We sure have a lot of work to do if you can’t even remember you have tutoring. Perhaps we should have our tutoring sessions more often,” she continued, a glint of mischief in her eyes. “Or else how will you ever be able to remember the dates for History of Magic?”

Sheldon I️KR SAME!!!!

Adventures in Tutoring || Sheldon and Wendy

“Don’t forget your essay is due tomorrow,” the professor noted before dismissing the class for the day. There were mixed responses from the students - ranging from groans to wishing the teacher a good day - as they filed out. Most streamed in one of four directions, heading to their respective common rooms before dinner.

Wendy, however, having agreed to tutor a fifth year, headed for the library. All she knew was the boy’s year and his name, but surely there wouldn’t be that many students in the library at this time. He’ll be easy to find, she told herself as she tugged open the door to the library.

I️ was right about one thing, she thought, surveying the library. There aren’t many students here… But the problem was, the only boy who looked like he was a fifth year was a Ravenclaw. Even though Wendy didn’t know every Ravenclaw personally, she could recognize her housemates on sight. Still, while it might seem improbable that a Ravenclaw need tutoring, Wendy knew I️t was not impossible.

”Excuse me?” she said, coming up to his table. “You wouldn’t happen to be Sheldon, would you?”

The Zebra Storyteller - by Spencer Holst

Once upon a time there was a Siamese cat who pretended to be a lion and spoke inappropriate Zebraic.
That language is whinnied by the race of striped horses in Africa.
Here now: An innocent zebra is walking in a jungle, and approaching from another direction is the little cat; they meet.
“Hello there!” says the Siamese cat in perfectly pronounced Zebraic. “It certainly is a pleasant day, isn’t it? The sun is shining, the birds are singing, isn’t the world a lovely place to live today!”
The zebra is so astonished at hearing a Siamese cat speaking like a zebra, why, he’s just fit to be tied.
So the little cat quickly ties him up, kills him, and drags the better parts of the carcass back to his den.
The cat successfully hunted zebras many months in this manner, dining on filet mignon of zebra every night, and from the better hides he made bow neckties and wide belts after the fashion of the decadent princes of the Old Siamese court.
He began boasting to his friends he was a lion, and he gave them as proof the fact that he hunted zebras.
The delicate noses of the zebras told them there was really no lion in the neighborhood. The zebra deaths caused many to avoid the region. Superstitious, they decided the woods were haunted by the ghost of a lion.
One day the storyteller of the zebras was ambling, and through his mind ran plots for stories to amuse the other zebras, when suddenly his eyes brightened, and he said, “That’s it! I’ll tell a story about a Siamese cat who learns to speak our language! What an idea! That’ll make ’em laugh!”
Just then the Siamese cat appeared before him, and said, “Hello there! Pleasant day today, isn’t it!”
The zebra storyteller wasn’t fit to be tied at hearing a cat speaking his language, because he’d been thinking about that very thing.
He took a good look at the cat, and he didn’t know why, but there was something about his looks he didn’t like, so he kicked him with a hoof and killed him.
That is the function of the storyteller.

059: What is your character most loyal about?

adventures-and-thimbles-blog

Wendy is most loyal about her family. Who she perceives as her family is different, though, because of her familial issues. Her perceived family constitutes her brothers, close friends, and anyone she thinks needs a family, like the kids at orphanage. Wendy will do anything for her family members. If they need her, she’ll drop everything.
On the subject, Wendy still has latent ties to her parents. She resents them because they turned their backs on what she cares most about: family. Despite her feelings of betrayal having scarred over the years, she still feels more hurt than she wants to. She wants to believe she’s moved on and that they aren’t her family anymore - that she’s as orphaned as the kids she cares for - but she often finds herself thinking of pleasant memories of the two of them, especially on their birthdays and other holidays. These, in turn, drudge up painful feelings, and the two emotions leave her feeling confused, betrayed, and lonely.

052: What’s the most important lesson your student has learned outside of school?

adventures-and-thimbles-blog

Her job at the orphanage has taught Wendy to be more assertive and more of a leader. She’s still hesitant to take charge in most situations, but it’s taught her to be more comfortable in making decisions and getting others to listen to them, even if those others are just younger kids. It’s a work in progress - a lesson she hasn’t completely learned.

045: What’s your characters favorite season and why?

adventures-and-thimbles-blog

Wendy loves winter and everything that comes with it - snow, Christmas, hot chocolate, curling up by the fire with a good book. Some of her fondest childhood memories are of snowball fights and igloo forts with her brothers, and she likes continuing the tradition with the kids at the orphanage.

Headcannons!

- People always think Wendy is younger than she is. Sometimes it’s only by a few years, and then sometimes the employees at the book store will direct her to the children’s section instead of the teens’.
-She knows a ridiculous amount about Blackbeard than one would expect due to reading five books about him during a phase when she was twelve.
-Christmas is her favorite holiday.
-Wendy is good at herbology - it plays to her nurturing nature. She likes it when she’s stressed because it helps her take her mind off whatever is bothering her. But, in that case she runs the risk of drudging up memories of gardening with her mother. They’re good memories, but they’ve been marred by her lack of relationship with her parents now. Writing is a much less risky way to spend her time.
